Kundli matching compares two Vedic birth charts for marriage compatibility, usually through guna milan plus deeper chart, dosha and timing judgement.
- The 36 gunas explained, not just scored
- Mangal dosha read with cancellations
- Marriage timing through dashas and transits
- Compatibility as context, never a verdict
Kundli matching, or guna milan, compares two Vedic birth charts across eight koota factors worth 36 points in total, using each person's Moon nakshatra. Eighteen or more is conventionally treated as workable. That is a genuine first layer, and it is also the layer most likely to be used as a verdict when it was never meant to be one.
This page explains what the 36 points measure, what they leave out, and how Mangal dosha and marriage timing are read with context. Note one thing plainly: the in-app Kundli Match feature is not currently enabled, so this is an explainer rather than a product page. Individual charts and questions about relationship patterns are available now.

What guna milan is actually measuring
The eight kootas each carry a different weight, and they are calculated almost entirely from the two Moon nakshatras. Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi, weighted 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively. Nadi alone is worth eight of the 36, which is why a single Nadi mismatch can drag an otherwise ordinary score down hard.
That weighting is a tradition, not a law of nature, and different schools handle the cancellations differently. The 36-guna guide walks through each koota and where the disagreements are.
What the score leaves out entirely
Everything that is not a Moon nakshatra. The 7th house and its lord, Venus and Jupiter in both charts, where Mars sits, the navamsa, and the dasha each person is currently running are all absent from the 36 points, and all of them matter more to how a marriage actually goes.
This is why a low score is not doom and a high score is not emotional maturity. A chart can score 30 and describe two people running periods that pull in opposite directions for the next six years. The 7th house guide covers what that house does and does not signify.
Mangal dosha without the fear
Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th is the common list, though the houses counted, and whether they are counted from the lagna, the Moon or Venus, vary by region and by astrologer. That is precisely why two calculators disagree about whether the same person is Manglik.
There are also long-standing cancellation rules, and there are people making a living from the anxiety that the label produces. What Mangal dosha actually is sets out the classical position and where the modern sales funnel departs from it.
Timing, which is usually the real question
"Are we compatible" is often standing in for "is this the right time". Those are different questions with different chart answers. Timing sits in the dashas and transits each person is running, and a relationship-supportive period in one chart against a difficult one in the other explains more friction than any koota mismatch.
Marriage astrology timing covers the indicators. Dasha versus transit explains why a hard transit lands very differently depending on the period underneath it.
How to use any of this well
Treat a match report as information for a conversation between two adults, not as a permission slip or a rejection notice. Consent, plans, money, family pressure and how someone behaves when things go wrong are not in either chart.
If you want to use Vedikks here, the useful move is to open your own chart and ask about your patterns in relationships rather than asking a score to decide.
What this page does not claim
- Vedikks does not currently offer an in-app two-chart matching feature. This page explains the system; it does not compute a match for you.
- A guna score is not a compatibility measurement in any testable sense, and this page does not present it as one.
- No chart comparison can assess consent, safety or whether two people treat each other well. If those are the question, astrology is the wrong instrument.
- Guidance and reflection, not a decision about a marriage.

Quick answers
What counts as a good Kundli matching score?
Eighteen or more out of 36 is the conventional threshold. It is one layer, weighted heavily towards Nadi, and it says nothing about the 7th house, Venus, Jupiter, Mars or either person's dasha.
Does Mangal dosha cancel a marriage?
No. The house list, the reference point and the cancellation rules all vary between traditions, which is why two calculators disagree. It needs context, not a verdict.
Can Vedikks match two Kundlis for me?
Not today; that feature is switched off. You can generate individual charts and ask about relationship patterns and timing in your own chart.
Can astrology predict my marriage date?
It can describe periods that are more or less supportive of partnership. A fixed date is not something a chart delivers, and anyone offering one is selling certainty rather than reading a chart.
